CEC Statement on COVID-19 Vaccination and Face Coverings

Sep 17, 2021

Given the various and changing provincial guidelines regarding vaccinations and face coverings, Climbing Escalade Canada (CEC) wishes to provide clear guidelines for our climbing community as it relates to upcoming CEC-sanctioned events. We believe the following policy is necessary to provide the safest possible environment for everyone who participates in our events.

Vaccination

As of September 14, 2021, CEC requires that all attendees (athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, spectators, events staff, etc.) aged 12 and older at any CEC-Sanctioned events be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This applies to the 2021 North American Cup Series Events and the 2021-2022 CEC Competition Series, regardless of location, until further notice.

Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 means having received 2 shots of an approved vaccine, more than 14 days prior to the event. Proof of Vaccination will be required during the CEC verification process, which will be communicated to registered participants.

Exemptions will only be considered for medical reasons or other grounds recognized by the relevant Provincial Health Authority and the Canadian Human Rights Act.

Face Covering

As of September 14, 2021, CEC requires that all attendees (athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, spectators, events staff, etc.) aged 2 and older at CEC-Sanctioned events wear an approved face covering while attending the event. Athletes will be allowed to remove their face covering while climbing only if accepted by provincial guidelines. This will be announced on a case-by-case basis for each event.

An approved mask or face covering is one that completely covers your nose, mouth, and chin.

Exemptions will only be considered for medical grounds or other grounds recognized by Provincial Health Authorities and the Canadian Human Rights Act.

If you have any questions regarding this statement, or should you wish to apply for an exemption, please contact CEC’s Executive Director at ed@climbingcanada.ca
